Background

Noting the recent violent past of Sierra Leone, and the need for continued peace; and given the desirability for a free, fair, peaceful and well-regulated election and the avoidance of political discord, as provided for by the Political Parties Act, 2002, which establishes the PPRC for the registration and regulation of the conduct of political parties in accordance with sections 34 and 35 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone.

The Political Parties Registration Commision consists of a Chairman and three other members as provided for in section 34 of the  1991 Constitution. All the Commissioners, except from the Chief Electoral Commissioner, are appointed by the President, subject to the approval of Parliament.

To ensure peaceful and long-term democratic political representation of the people of Sierra Leone through independent registration and balanced monitoring of political parties.

Mission statement

To engender among political parties a spirit of accountable political pluralism that is founded on principles of tolerance, fair-play and non-violent resolution of political and election related disputes.
